Do you want to buy a new mattress and are undecided between a latex mattress and a Memory Foam mattress?

Well, we invite you to take a few minutes. Purchasing a mattress is an investment (no small one) in your well-being and should not be made lightly.

Here are the factors to consider before spending money!

The difference between latex and Memory Foam

Latex is a whitish resin (hence the Latin origin latex, meaning milk) obtained from the so-called "rubber tree." Once harvested, the latex undergoes a chemical process called vulcanization that generates the solid sheet of latex.

Foam, on the other hand, is polyurethane foam and is characterized by different properties depending on the components used in polyurethane expansion.

People often mistakenly speak of a Memory Foam mattress, but Memory Foam is a type of foam that by its composition cannot support the weight of the body. Typically, Memory is present in the filling while the sheet at the base that supports the body is made of high-density foam.

Therefore, it is more correct to talk about foam mattress rather than Memory Foam mattress.

The disadvantages of a latex mattress

Latex went through a period of tremendous popularity in the past, and the myth of the latex mattress has remained in the minds of many.

Some clichés persist about this type of mattress, die-hard ideas that you should, however, carefully investigate before making your choice.

Latex is (not) orthopedic

Do you suffer from back pain? Perhaps latex is not the ideal support for you.

Latex mattresses are composed of a latex sheet, which is a resilient and durable material, yet not very suitable for preventing and treating back pain.

Excuse me? The orthopedic mattress is made of latex? This is a false belief that dates back to the 1990s when began to pop up the concept of a "hard and firm mattress" as an orthopedic mattress, i.e., beneficial for the spine, In this view, the strength and elasticity of latex have been associated with the ability to support the body properly.

However, our spine is not a straight line but has natural undulations that a compact and rigid slab cannot meet optimally.

This is why pocket spring mattresses and foam mattresses are more suitable for those with back or neck pain:

Foam, specifically, offers strong but more "orthopedic" support than latex.

If you suffer from back pain, in particular, make sure that the mattress is a mattress certified as a Class I Medical Device, that is, suitable for the prevention and treatment of back and neck pain.

Latex is natural

Another argument in support of latex is its natural origin. Beware of the wording, however!

  • a naturally derived latex mattress must by law be composed of at least 85 percent latex from the plant; in any case, there is no such thing as a mattress that is made entirely of latex;
  • if the percentage is less than 85%, or even it is synthetic latex, then you have to limit yourself to the term latex mattress.

Beware also of those who talk about 100% natural latex: perhaps the latex is completely natural, but the definition does not clarify to what extent this 100% natural latex is present in the mattress!

Latex is hypoallergenic (but attracts mold and bacteria!).

If you suffer from allergies, the latex mattress is an option to consider. However, it is incorrect to say that the latex mattress is hypoallergenic: first of all, it is not recommended for those who are allergic to latex itself!

In addition, natural or naturally derived materials attract mites and bacteria. Although basic latex sheet is non-allergenic, therefore, a latex mattress attracts microorganisms and promotes mold growth.

This is why latex mattresses require more maintenance than other models. In fact, it is recommended that the mattress be aired at least once a week.

Latex is (not) breathable

The sheet at the base of latex mattresses is a compact sheet with little breathability. Heat is retained within the mattress and prevents the creation of an ideal sleeping microclimate.

This defect is shared by low-end foam/memory foam mattresses, while high-end foam mattresses, on the other hand, have breathable systems and solutions that solve this issue and allow for cool, dry rest.

The advantages of foam mattress

Foam mattresses adapt better to body shapes than latex. This is all the more true with Memory Foam, which gently accommodates the body and molds to it.

Foam is a polyurethane foam and as such is hypoallergenic, i.e. prevents the spread of dust mites, bacteria and mold.

Ultimately, the foam mattress provides the following benefits:

  • rigid support but more adaptable and orthopedic than the latex mattress;
  • Hypoallergenic and hygienic;
  • Lower maintenance requirements;
  • cooler and more breathable in comparison with latex mattresses, especially when considering high-end models.

Let's go back to our original question. Are you still undecided between a latex mattress and a foam mattress?

Latex mattress or foam mattress: which one to choose?

If you have come this far, you will have realized that the latex mattress is now an outdated sleeping system.

While not without its advantages, a latex mattress has many shortcomings that foam mattresses have long since solved and overcome.

That's why we advise you to go for modern foam supports. Our proposal? X-BIO, the mattress of patented excellence!

X-BIO: the patented, unique and original system!

X-BIO is a world-patented sleep system, an original solution that combines quality raw materials and technological development to provide you with the right support, optimal comfort and excellent performance in terms of breathability, freshness and hypoallergenicity.

Superior performance for those who must always be at their best. That's why X-BIO was also chosen by Lazio football players for their rest!

The X-BIO line consists of several models available in two versions, foam and pocketed springs, both certified Class I Medical Device.

All models are therefore suitable for the prevention and treatment of back pain and neck pain. Specifically, foam provides stiffer support suitable for those who need more substantial support.

X-BIO mattresses then have a Memory Foam padding that provides a comfortable fit and promotes equal weight distribution. This prevents the formation of "pressure points" that cause tingling and numbness in the limbs.

X-BIO - The Rest Revolution!

X-BIO models feature an unmistakable registered design, different for each model, and upholstery with innovative elements that enrich rest with benefits.

All models use the X-BIO system that through the synergy of hi-tech Coolmax, Airmesh and Power Channel fibers recycles sweat and promotes the thermoregulation process with significant energy savings. Ideal for those who lead active and energetic lives!

In addition, all models feature Multi-Fresh System on the sides of the mattress, a technical trick that fights moisture and keeps the mattress cool and dry.
